Contraceptive advice including the morning after pill. This service is for confidential advice and for the provision of Emergency Hormonal Contraception.
Emergency contraception can help to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex, or if your usual contraception has failed, for example a split condom or a missed pill. It works best the sooner it is taken, so please come and see us as early as you can. You do not need to wait until the next morning.
Your consultation takes place in our private consultation room and is completely confidential. The pharmacist will ask a few questions, such as when you had unprotected sex, where you are in your cycle and whether you take any other medicines. This helps them recommend the option that is most suitable and most likely to work for you.
If emergency hormonal contraception is appropriate, the pharmacist can supply it during the same visit and explain how to take it, what to expect afterwards and what to do if you are sick after taking it. They can also tell you about other options, including the emergency coil, and where it can be fitted.
Emergency contraception does not protect against sexually transmitted infections and is not intended as a regular method of contraception. We can talk to you about ongoing contraception and about where to get tested if you are worried about infections.
You will not be judged and you do not need to feel embarrassed. Speak to a member of staff and ask for a private word with the pharmacist, or book a consultation online.
